With a dedication to old world craftsmanship, Haus presents a collection in which the distinct nature of leather is brought to life as wearable art.
Hello, my name is Aaron Arlinghaus, my friends call me Haus. I am a leather artist and craftsman based in Portland, Oregon. I recently moved my studio across the country from Ithaca, NY, where I first trained in traditional leather craft with local master sandal maker, Gio. Over the past ten years I have designed and custom built extensive leather accessory collections for men and women, showing in art/craft shows in the Northeast.
My collection includes cuffs, belts, suspenders, guitar straps, messenger bags, satchels, briefcases, portfolios, & handbags. I hand pick the finest full grain vegetable tanned cowhides to create my work. I use solid brass hardware. The combination of saddle leather and solid brass hardware produces a classic piece which will age beautifully over many years. I enjoy carving and hand dyeing leather to produce one of a kind pieces. Natural elements such as antlers and semi precious stones make their way into my designs. Vintage and custom bronze buckles outfit my one of a kind pieces. I employ the traditional leather craft techniques in which I was trained, stitching and riveting all my work by hand. I make each piece to order, working with my clients to find the perfect cut, color, and fit.
